A boardroom review provides tables to assess their performance in a holistic manner. It helps tables identify aspects of longevity, as well as weaknesses in their connections, leadership and culture that could cause both practical and social changes. It also helps ensure that the members who pay for table memberships are able to fulfill their duties.
This research area is still in the process of developing and a variety of issues remain. The current empirical evidence shows inconsistent results regarding how dissent affects boards and the way they function. Some studies report positive (Zona 2016,) curvilinear or non-significant or mixed results. Other studies report negative (Brown Buchholtz And Butts 2019, Heemskerk Heemskerk and Wats, Minichilli, et al. There is a 2012 study that shows) connections between dissent and task performance of a board.
The literature does not provide a deeper understanding of what factors influence the dynamics of dissension. Future research should create an integrated theoretical framework to understand this phenomenon of governance. This could include the use of configuring approaches (Federo and Saz-Carranza 2018, Schiell, Lewellyn, and Yan 2023) to assist researchers to better understand how board attributes as well as processes and contexts connect to the need for and sufficient causality in governance processes.
Some studies use an his response esoteric definition of dissent but do not provide precise measurement methods. These studies are therefore prone to measurement error. It is worthwhile to develop more robust methods to measure dissent in future studies.
